Whether you’re looking to heat a home or a commercial property, getting the right radiator is key to heating the room correctly and efficiently.
The best heating radiators depend on your needs, your utility services and the size and type of the space you’re looking to heat. With a number of options available it can be difficult to know where to start.
To help you make the right decision, the experts here at The Electrical Guys have created this guide to the different types of radiators available, and how they are suited to different applications and locations. We’ve also included some of our favourite radiator brands, and highlighted some of their most efficient radiators. Read on to find out more.
If you’re looking for energy-efficient radiators, aluminium radiators are a good choice. Powered by electricity, a small amount of water inside is heated, which in turn heats the radiator. Aluminium radiators have a very high heat output for the small amount of energy they use, making them more cost-effective to run over long periods of time than other types of radiator. Aluminium radiators are also friendlier to the environment, as they’re easier to recycle.
As they’re extremely energy-efficient, aluminium radiators are suitable for a number of environments, including homes and office spaces, especially if you require the room to be heated over long periods of time.
The Electrical Guys stock a selection of aluminium radiators to suit any style of home or office space, including manual and digital aluminium ceramic core radiators. Aluminium radiators come with a range of features, including compact design, infrared communication and advanced control technology, so you can choose the additional features to meet your needs.
Ceramic Core Radiators
Ceramic core radiators are more energy-efficient than others. These products are heated by electricity, and once warm the ceramic core has excellent heat retention. This means the radiator stays warm for longer periods of time than other varieties, making it one of the most cost-effective radiators you can purchase.
Due to ceramic’s heat retention properties, ceramic core radiators are brilliant for warming up older and colder buildings that need to be heated more frequently. If you have to have your heating on a lot in your home, a switch to ceramic heaters may be a good investment long-term.
Ceramic core radiators from The Electrical Guys, are available in a range of variations; including both digital and manual. They also come with a variety of features too, including smart technology and customisable programming, so you can programme heating your space around your day-to-day schedule.
Oil-filled radiators are electrically-powered radiators with oil inside. When you turn them on, the electricity heats the oil, which in-turn provides heat to the radiator; the oil inside is not burned, and is just used for the transfer of heat. Oil-filled radiators are usually designed in columns, to allow the even distribution of heat through the oil.
It is best to use oil-filled radiators in offices, workshops or domestic properties, or in small and medium-sized spaces. They are also a good option for the replacement of more outdated gas heaters, which can’t be used in small spaces for health and safety concerns.
The Electrical Guys stock a number of oil-filled radiators from brands such as Rointe, with a range of additional features to enhance their usability, safety and efficiency. Features include timers, over-heat protection, built-in cord storage and adjustable thermostats.
Portable radiators allow you to bring more heat into a space of any size. They are usually electrically-powered and are either oil-filled (the electricity heats the oil which heats the radiator) or convector heaters, that emit rising warm air. If portable radiators are run as the sole source of heat in a room or household, they can be expensive to run long-term, and are best-used to give the existing utilities a boost.
As you’ve probably guessed, portable radiators are best-used when you are moving around. These products are most commonly used for smaller spaces that don’t already have in-built heating, or need an extra boost. Portable heaters are often used to heat up garages and workshops, and individual rooms in a home.
The range of portable radiators available is very diverse, and they come with a number of different features. Some, like our 2kW Wall Mountable Convector Heater can be attached to walls, to blend in with the room and save your floor space, and others, like our in Oil Filled Radiators, have additional castors for portability. Other features on portable radiators include 24-hour timers, a variety of heat settings and in-built thermostats.
